Sept/Oct, 2008:

Hello everyone! I hope all is going well. It seems like just about everyone’s getting into some good routines so far. There haven’t been too many schedule conflicts so far as I’ve tried to fill my open spots with new students and adjust the schedule to meet everyone’s needs (including my own). There has been plenty of practicing, which is great, however not all the practice sheets are getting filled out. I hope students are using the notes I write on their practice sheets. It takes me a long time to do and it lets you know what you need to do to make your practicing the most productive.
I’ve added a few new students into my studio in the last few weeks. Some things you should be looking out for once a month is a newsletter, a calendar and an invoice showing how much you have paid for the previous month. Please double check them for errors. I do my own accounting and sometimes I do make mistakes. The other thing I do once a month is group lessons. Group lessons are always on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 and cost $10. They are a great opportunity for students to work together and to learn from each other. They will be super important as our winter recital gets closer. Level one is always the first Tuesday of the month, level two is the second week, level three is the third week, and level four is the fourth week of each month. If you’re not sure which group you are in, just let me know.
We were missing a few people at our parent meeting at the beginning of the semester, so I just wanted to remind everyone of some of the changes I’ve made. First of all, I made some new house rules: 1. Please let yourself in quietly and wash your hands before your lesson. 2. You will be charged for your lesson if you do not let me know you’re not coming. 3. Parents need to come in for at least the first or last five minutes of each lesson so I can make sure they know what’s going on. (Kids under the age of 8 should have a parent present for the entire lesson)
I also need to warn everyone that starting in January, I will be increasing my rates. My last day at Kaladi Brothers is October 31st and I plan to focus on improving my lesson materials and I also plan to spend more time preparing for lessons. 30 minute lessons will then be $25, 45 minute lessons will be $35, 60 minute lessons will be $40 and group lessons will be $15.
I haven’t had a lot of time to set up any performances this semester, but I have reserved our space for the winter recital to be Saturday, December 6th and I’ve also reserved it for December 5th for a rehearsal. I will provide more information about the recital as the date comes closer. Just keep the dates in mind that the November group lessons will be super important for preparing for this performance.
I think that just about covers everything. Check the new roster for errors and check the calendar for schedule changes and any conflicts you might have. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My new phone now works and I get ALL of my messages (and even my emails).
