This
is our last month of lessons and the schedule is pretty crazy. Please
make sure you look over the calendar so you’ll know what’s
going on. I am super excited for our recital and potluck on December
12th. All the songs that we are playing have been posted on you tube.
If you search for “mutant juggler” (which is my dad’s
account) you should be able to find all of them. I will try to post a
link on my website. I have also been handing out practice lists for the
recital with all the arrangements on it along with some little invites
to hand out to friends and family. The First Congregational Church is
pretty big so feel free to invite as many people as you’d like.
If you missed
your group lesson this month, it is MANDATORY that you come to the rehearsal
on Thursday, December 10th (7pm at the First Congregational Church). We will
be arranging where everyone is standing and running through all the songs in
order. This is our only opportunity to practice with all 4 levels together
as a group. It’s also a good chance for students to try some of the songs
they are uncertain about.
The recital
and potluck will be on Saturday, December 12th at 4:30pm. Students should arrive
no later than 4pm to get tuned and set up. Students are expected to be on their
best behavior during the recital (on and off stage)! There will be no music
stands on stage, so please make sure your songs are memorized and polished
by recital day.
I am still
doing a couple of group lessons in December for levels 1-3. Please try to make
an extra effort to come to the last group lessons of the semester. I will be
listening carefully to see if anyone is ready to move up to a higher level.
Unfortunately, levels 4 and 5 will not have any more group lessons until January
due to Winter Break. The last day of the semester is December 18th. Spring
semester will start January 3rd.
Everyone
must fill out a schedule survey and turn it in by Saturday, December 26th.
This is the only fair way to make sure everyone gets a time that works around
their schedule and my schedule. As it is, I don’t have much extra time
during the week so it’s important that everyone gives me at least 3 or
4 options on their survey to work with. Also keep in mind, that I try to give
the earlier times to younger students because it is harder for them to focus
during a lesson later that is later at night. After the semester has started
I will fill open times (if there are any) with new students. I currently have
a waiting list of students trying to get on the schedule, but I want to make
sure all of my current students have a time that works for them before I add
any more.
All are
invited to come watch my band, The Emeralds on Monday, December 28th (7pm at
Organic Oasis). We only do concerts about once a year now days, so it will
be well worth it to come see this rare reunion of musicians. Also, please let
me know if you are interested in participating in the Alaska Folk Festival
in Juneau, AK (April 9th-12th). I will need to send in an application sometime
in January.
I hope everyone
enjoys the holiday break. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
