Nov., 2008:

Hello everyone! I am very excited to prepare for the upcoming holiday season. My last day at Kaladi Brothers was last Friday which is somewhat sad, but a bit of a relief at the same time. I plan to take some of the free time I will now have to better prepare for lessons. Please keep an eye out for updated scales and exercises and perhaps even some new tunes in all of the packets. This month’s schedule is very busy, so please read this newsletter and the attached calendar carefully.

This month’s group lessons are very important, because we will be practicing for our recital on December 6th. Level 1 is on November 4th, Level 2 is on November 11th, Level 3 is on November 18th, and Level 4 is on November 25th. All group lessons are from 5:30-6:30 and cost $10. Keep in mind there will be NO LESSONS November 27th & 28th. Level 1 will also have a group lesson December 2nd before the recital, but for all other groups it will be the last chance to practice with just that group before the recital.

There was some confusion with the times for the rehearsal and the recital. Both will be held at the Anchorage Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 3201 Turnagain St. The rehearsal will be on Friday, December 5th from 5:30-7:00pm. This will be a chance for ALL the groups to practice together before the recital, so PLEASE try to be there for this. Level 4 needs to keep in mind that we will not be running through their solos at this rehearsal, so those need to be prepared ahead of time. The recital and potluck will be on Saturday, December 6th from 5:00-7:30pm. Students will need to arrive at 4:30 to tune and get set up to perform. Please read over the attached sheet that has information about the potluck and also has a list of tunes to practice for the recital.

Next month I will be handing out schedule surveys for next semester. This will give the new students a chance to get a spot that works well for them and allows everyone else to make changes to their schedule if needed. Because I am not working at Kaladi Brothers anymore, I am going to open up Fridays again for teaching. I was thinking about opening up an improvisational group class for advanced students on Fridays. I’m going to see who is interested first. Winter break will be from December 21st until January 3rd. The schedule surveys will be due December 27th.

Looking ahead, I am going to turn in the application for the Anchorage Folk Festival next week. If there are any days you cannot perform during January 15th-25th, please let me know ASAP so I can put it on the application. Everyone is sounding really good and I am really proud to be able to work with so many talented musicians. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me or email me.
