Jan., 2009 :

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good, safe winter break. All went well in the Kerr Family. I went to Homer and played for a dance with an excellent violin player and teacher. He gave me some new tunes and some new tricks to make music transcription much easier for me. All the packets are updated and look great, but as always, I will keep an eye out for typos and other mistakes.
I would like to welcome the new students to the studio and wish them good luck on their musical adventures. I would also like to welcome back Jenni who has been in Africa for the past year and a half. There are a few changes that everyone should know about. First off, my rate increase will apply this month. The new rates are $25 per half hour lesson, $35 per 45 minute lesson, $40 per hour lesson, and the group lessons are now $15. Longer lessons are reserved for older and more advanced students. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
This week I will be handing out the invoices from last semester (I didn’t get around to emailing them). The ones for this semester will be the same. Please remember to check for errors. I do all of my own accounting, and I do make mistakes sometimes. Also, for those who are having their lessons paid through family partnership, I did receive checks for last semester. (I think all were a little over, so I put the remainders towards this semester).
Our spot for this year’s Anchorage Folk Festival is on Saturday, January 24th at 3:45. I know some students will be gone that weekend, but we’ll take what we can get. Remember that you need to commit to being there at least an hour early. Last year some acts did not show up and we went on stage early and a lot of disappointed fiddlers showed up after we had already played. I emailed a list of tunes for this performance last month. I would like to have a rehearsal for this event on Saturday, January 17th at 4:00pm so we can figure out arrangements and time our set.
In the purple box to the right is a link to the calendar for this month. Please read through to make sure everything works out. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Happy Fiddling!
Looking ahead, I am going to turn in the application for the Anchorage Folk Festival next week. If there are any days you cannot perform during January 15th-25th, please let me know ASAP so I can put it on the application. Everyone is sounding really good and I am really proud to be able to work with so many talented musicians. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me or email me.
