April, 2009 :

Happy spring! I have lots of new important spring details to tell everyone, including a set date for our recital. I also have dates for some summer camps and the dates for my summer intensives. Please look over the attached calendar and last month’s invoices carefully for any flaws. I will have some hand outs for the upcoming recital in the next couple of weeks.
First of all, there will be no lessons on Sunday, April 12th (Easter). I’ve forgotten about Easter Sunday the last couple of years and have waited while no one showed up for lessons. Group lessons will remain back on schedule with level 1 on April 7th, level 2 on April 14th, level 3 on April 21st and level 4 on April 28th. Keep in mind these will be the last group lessons for levels 3 and 4 before the recital, so please make an effort to attend these group lessons.
Our spring recital and potluck will be on Saturday, May 16th at 5:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (located at 3201 Turnagain St.). I also have the space reserved for Friday, May 15th from 6:30-8pm to do a rehearsal with all of the groups together. Like I’ve said in the past: “If you can’t make it to the rehearsal, make sure you come to your group lesson. If you can’t make it to your group lesson, make sure to come to the rehearsal.” A $5 donation from each family will be requested but not required to cover the cost of the space. Please let me know as soon as possible if you will not be able to perform in this recital.
The last day of lessons will be Friday, May 22nd. I will hand out schedule surveys for the fall semester at the beginning of May. These surveys will be due July 31st, but the sooner you turn them in, the easier it is for me to put the schedule together. I sent an email out to everyone about the summer intensives. Some kids have already signed up which is great. The intensives include five private lessons (Monday through Friday) and then a group lesson (Saturday). Students are not required to practice the week of the intensives, because they will be coming every day in a row for lessons. They are great if you would like to jump ahead. I have seen students jump a complete level the week of the intensives.
I’ve started to receive information on some of the other camps around town, so let me know if you would like to sign up for any other music camps over the summer. I will be teaching at Alaska City Folk Arts the week of June 15th-20th. I hope all goes well during the spring season. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Happy Fiddling!
